We have tents and heaters available as well as some blankets. We have several small plates available for purchase if you are hungry! We also highly encourage you to support your local restaurants that may not have outdoor seating options by getting their food to go and enjoying it here with your glass of wine or beer! 

Never been to The Grape Choice? We are a small family owned (Mayor Penny Sweet and State Representative Larry Springer, owners) wine store and wine bar! We have been in Kirkland for nearly 40 years providing the community with the largest privately owned wine selection on the eastside! We have a large selection of international and domestic wines, with a large focus on getting you the things you can’t get just anywhere. As far as the bar goes, we have wines by the glass or bottle, choices rotate often, and over 30 canned beers/ciders.

We offer small plates, and we allow outside food (not drinks) to be enjoyed on our patio with purchase from our bar. Our staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and we are often referred to as the “Cheers” of the community.

Tastings are back! Wednesday Tastings are in full swing and will have pop up tastings from time to time on other days. Follow us on social media and join the newsletter to stay up to date! Wednesday tastings are from 5-8pm. We feature a different winery or theme each week, check out our event calendar to see what’s coming up! We offer in store, curb-side pickup or free Local Delivery (within 5 miles). Orders available within 24 hours of purchase! Or, You can also shop our store online store for a handpicked selection of our giftable wines, wine packages, and our top selling every day wines!

RETAIL: You can come in and shop, order online (limited but fun selection), or call us during business hours. We offer in store pickup, curbside pickup, and free local delivery (for $50 min purchase). Our current operating hours are: Sun thru Tues 12pm to 7pm, Weds thru Sat 11am-9pm.   • We have nice sized cheese plates, and other noshes for purchase, but we do also allow outside food. We just ask that you take with you and dispose of any items you purchased elsewhere. There are public garbage receptacles just outside of our patio that you can use. We highly recommend that you choose to order from a restaurant that is clearly following the laws.
  • The corkage fee for bottles purchased from the store that are not on the featured menu is $30. We charge this fee because the store margins are too small to cover the costs of running the bar and patio portion of our business. There are a couple simple solutions to this though! Order off our featured wine by the bottle list, or even better, join one of our awesome wine clubs and corkage fees are waived!   Sign Up Here!!

Bub Club

$100 plus tax quarterly. We find you a seasonal selection of a varying amount of bubbles each quarter. Maybe a spring prosecco pack, or a magnum of something special for the holidays! You will always be delighted by the selections we make for you.

$150 plus tax per quarter. We select two high end, special red wines from around the world (usually one new world, one old world) that are great now or even better if cellared and drank in 5-10 years. This club is an employee favorite!

About Us

The Grape Choice

has been Kirkland’s finest wine merchant for over 30 years! We have evolved over the years into a local hangout and wine bar as well as maintaining a high standard of wines for purchase in our store. We love helping our customers pick out a new favorite wine, fine gift, cellar worthy purchases, or a great bottle to enjoy on our patio. For a party or 50 cases for a fundraiser, we can handle it.

The Grape Choice is owned by community members Larry Springer (State Representative 45th District) and Penny Sweet (Kirkland City Mayor). To Penny and Larry wine is more than what ends up in your glass. Besides the art of a finely crafted bottle of wine, there is its story which includes the wine, the winery, its history, its people and the experiences they have had. This is part of what we try to share with you at our shop.

We don’t take ourselves very seriously at The Grape Choice, we reserve that for our product. We offer a tremendous local selection as well as an incredibly broad domestic and international portfolio at a wide variety of price points.

We pride ourselves on being able to help our customers with wine pairings for any occasion or meal. We can handle orders of all sizes, whether you just want that one special bottle or you need two cases for a party or 50 cases for a fundraiser, we can handle it. 

Penny and Larry have put their blood, sweat, and tears into making The Grape Choice a place where people can find wines they can trust, an atmosphere where you like to hang out, and they built nearly every piece of furniture themselves!

Penny's Wine Cave - Currently Unavailable
with walls adorned in beautiful wood wine boxes, is a private tasting room you can rent and is available for meetings, birthday parties, showers, and private gatherings. The wine box lined walls provide a cool backdrop for great conversation and a comfortable atmosphere for tasting. See our Wine Cave for more information on event space.

Penny's Wine Cave

The Cave is currently unavailable under our current restrictions mandated by the state.

Step into Penny's Wine Cave, your own personal wine tasting room separated from the rest of our shop with French doors for your privacy.

The walls of Penny's Wine Cave are adorned with wine boxes and a chandeliered ceiling create a warm atmosphere, with small tables that complement the 12 foot center conference table, allowing up to 30 people to enjoy any special event.

  • Daytime Penny's Wine Cave rentals Monday through Sunday for meetings and events 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM are $150.00 (up to $50.00 of the rental can be used towards corkage fees.
  • Evening Wine Cave rentals Monday through Saturday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM are $250.00 (up to $100.00 of the rental can be used towards corkage fees).
  • An automatic 20% gratuity will be added to all wine and food purchases related to the event.
  • Daytime events that are scheduled or extend beyond 4:00 PM will be subject to an additional $20 per hour.
  • Evening events that are scheduled or extend beyond 9:00PM will be subject to an additional $25 per hour.
